Boutibonne Charles Edouard

 8th July 1816 Charles Édouard Boutibonne, French Academic painter who died on 07 February 1897. A student of Friedrich von Amerling, Achille Dévéria and Franz Xaver Winterhalter, Boutibonne achieved initial prestige as a court portraitist for Napoléon III. During the 1860s he was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon and in 1867 he was elected a member of l'Association artistique du canton de Berne in Switzerland, where he mantained a second residence in Wilderswil near Interlaken. — Né en Hongrie de parents français, Charles-Edouard Boutibonne étudia d'abord à Vienne avec F. Ammerling puis à Paris avec Winterhalter et Deveria. Il est surtout connu pour ses portraits aristocratiques et ses scènes de genre mais il a aussi peint des sujets d'inspiration mythologique, biblique, ou antique, par exemple Léda, exposé au salon de 1864, Phryné devant l'aréopage (1867), Suzanne au bain (1881).—
