Willem van de Velde II (18 December 1633 – 7 April 1707), Dutch painter, well known for his marine landscapes.
He was the son of Willem van de Velde I, a marine landscape artist, who taught and influenced him. Before starting training with his father, Willem studied in Weesp under Simon de Vlieger, the atmosphere in his paintings influencing him. The father and son left at the end of 1672 to England, where they would remain and work for the rest of theirs lives. They would paint mainly naval battlescenes and marine landscapes, being supported by Charles II and his court. Very popular in his time, although he was often confused with his father, Willem preffered landscapes over the war scenes.
