After the surprising success that the very first season of this Netflix show had (as if to show everybody that the genre is far from being out of fashion) the second Stranger Things season aired to the same kind of reaction. Bringing together science fiction, horror, the 80s atmosphere, music and nostalgic charm, and continuing to tell a story that is fresh, exciting and keeps up on the brink, Stranger Things is by far one of the most surprising, original and well made series in recent years. And as every kind of production there are many facts, secrets and details that even the fans might not know, and here are only five of them. So in theory you should know these and more if you really, really like Stranger Things. 1. Did you know that Netflix (which has recently produced some surprisingly good Stephen King adaptations) bought Stranger Things in only 24 hours? Some good inspiration and fast thinking made the first season a reality after the producers bought the idea so fast. There were other alternate titles, but in the end they settled on Stranger Things. Before that the script was rejected by more than 10 networks.
2. For many fans of the show Eleven, the mysterious girl with psycho-kinetic powers is by far their favourite. At first Eleven was supposed to be very powerful from the start, but then the producers decided to reveal her force step by step, growing into the character.
3. It was long hard work finding the kids for the show. It took several months and hundreds were rejected before finally putting together the crew you have grown to know and love.
4. Winona Ryder - another nice surprise to have her in the series - wanted to have her hair cut like Meryl Streep in the movies Silkwood.
5. The soundtrack of the show was another surprise, and over 13 hours of music was composed especially for Stranger Things by Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon, two of the members of Survive, and Austin synth band. And the two managed a very difficult task, writing music that was fresh, atmospheric and very 80s, all at the same time. There are some who have thought about the John Carpenter influence when it comes to the soundtrack, and that could only mean another proof that it is really good music.
