Francesco Giambattista da Ponte Bassano (7 January 1549 - 3 July 1592), Italian Mannerist painter.
He came from one of the most important Italian artistic families of his time. His father, Jacopo Bassano (1517 - 1592) was the most talented and famous, but Francesco also had three brothers - Gerolamo, Giovanni Battista and Leandro - who were also painters. Jacopo had trained in Venice, and upon returning home to Bassano he opened a studio, where he worked with his sons. Besides altarpieces and religious compositions, the family produced a great number of works inspired by the country life and nature, very popular and in demand. The demand was so great that the painters had to work a lot, producing several copies and even entire series, so it is impossible to say nowadays if any of the compositions were only Francesco's work.
Despite his talent, Francesco had a tragic destiny. He moved to Venice in 1579, but in 1592 he commited suicide, for reasons still unknown.
