Artist's Presentation Mariana Mattis Tudor

In 1982 Ia€™ve graduated the a€śNicolae Grigorescua€ť Imitative Arts Institute in Bucharest, section pottery-glass-metal, majoring in glass. Since 1980, Ia€™ve been participating to different group exhibitions, in the country and abroad, and also held personal exhibitions. Ia€™ve exhibited in Aabenraa (Denmark), Alba Iulia (Romania), Arcus (Romania), Baia Mare (Romania), Brasov (Romania), Bucharest (Romania), Budapest (Hungary), Gyor (Hungary), Holstebro (Denmark), Ploiesti (Romania), Oradea (Romania), and Tours (France). I was part of the A35 group in Baia Mare between 1983 and 1985, and since 2003, I was part of the LIMITROF group, formed in Brasov. I am an active member of the Artists Union in Romania. In April 2006 I was received within the International KEPES Society for Aart of Light..

Ia€™ve participated in the restoration of stained-glass works in Miercurea-Ciuc in 1980 and in 1981, and in 1982 Ia€™ve created four stained-glass works for the a€śCetatea€ť restaurant in Brasov.
In 1984 Ia€™ve won a monuments contest, organized in Baia Mare, having a spatial spherical work project, having 3m in diameter, which consisted in colored glass modules, lit from the inside with lighting spots situated on a cylindrical rotating holder. In 2001, Ia€™ve restored and also created 12 new stained-glass works for the Synagogue in Brasov.
Ia€™ve been interested, since the university years, in cold glass processing by polishing, cutting, engraving, and my first works were containing incumbent pieces of glass and optical massive glass. Ia€™ve shown a big interest, especially in reflection and refraction issues, the first studies on this subject being made in 1981 and 1982.
Ia€™ve always chosen simple, geometrical shapes, pursuing the change of the light path, of the reflections, first by modifying the cold polished optical massive glass a€ 1981.
Ia€™ve passed on to creating incumbent, cold cut glass shapes, being fascinated this time by the image breaking using refraction, and then intervening upon them with polishing, resulting reflections on different surfaces a€ 1982. Thus Ia€™ve accomplished the first incumbent, cold cut glass monument, in 1982.
I have also worked with crystal glass or massive, simple, hot forming glass, polished, pursuing both shape transformation and also obtaining reflections and refractions a€ 1983, 1984, 1985.
Between 1983 and 1985 Ia€™ve been working a lot in the faience field, the works being modular or spatial-modular.
I kept creating incumbent glass works, frequently using, also, other materials a€ china clay, wood, and rope a€ 1994. Presently, I combine in my works of cold cut glass, the reflection and refraction effects a€ created by superposition, with the effects created by engraving on certain surfaces

I steel work with simple botles glass, pursuing hot transforming and also painted forms.
The stained-glass art continues to fascinate me by its combining shapes, colored glass, with the light extravaganza, like an actual colored light organ, that perambulates thru their transparency.
I create stained-glass works, as creations, using traditional techniques, like lead rods and mass colored glass, hot works.
In the photography field, I was interested both in shapes as spatial structures, rendering the light-shadow effects, and in capturing of natural phenomena.
