Ambrosius Bosschaert I (18 November 1573 - 1621), Flemish painter, specialised in still lifes and flower paintings, one of the masters of the genre.
He was maybe the most important representant of Dutch still life in the 17th century, being one of the first artists to paint exclusively in this genre. Born in Antwerp, he fled to Holland before turning 20, because of his religious beliefs. He settled in Middelburg, and after a short while his works became very popular. He would also work in Utrecht and Breda.
He liked to combine various flowers in his compositions, which had a symbolic value. He was also an important art dealer, and his three sons were also still life artists.
