Jeaurat Etienne
Etienne Jeaurat (9 February 1699 - 14 December 1789), French painter.
He was the favourite student of Nicolas Vleughels, who brought Jeaurat to Italy after he was appointed a director of the Academie Francaise in Rome, in 1724. Although the young artist was impressed by Italian tradition, no real influence of this can be found in his style. A master of genre painting, Jeaurat had a wide range of saubjects : pastorals, children playing, Oriental scenes, rural scenes, very successful in his time.
Jeaurat enjoyed his success as an official artist, becoming a member of the Royal Academy in Paris in 1733, then occupied the position of profesor, rector (in 1765) and chancelor in 1781.
He often participated at the Salon, between 1737 - 1769, and at the Gobelins factory several tapestries were produced according to Jeaurat's designs.
