Ciprian Porumbescu, a great composer
Ciprian Porumbescu was born in Sipotele Sucevei village on October 14, 1853. He studied music in Suceava and Cernauti, then Conservatory in Vienna with Anton Bruckner and Franz Krenn, studies that were interrupted because his family passed through precarious situation.
His father Iraclie Porumbescu was Orthodox priest. Between 1873 and 1877 Ciprian Porumbescu studied Orthodox theology at Cernauti, obtaining a scholarship which allowed him to continue his studies at Vienna, where he directed the choir of Romanian Students’ Society " Romania Juna ”.
In 1880 he realised a collection of songs for Romanian students, which included - Ginta Latina song.
Ciprian Porumbescu composed the operetta New Moon and its first presentation on 11 March 1882 obtaining a great success.
When face to face with Verdi, the great master of opera, Porumbescu sung a Romanian folk song, doina, Verdi said : miracle, I do not know this song, but like I've heard somewhere. I feel and I know the whole scale song.
In honor of the great composer was founded in 1971 Ciprian Porumbescu Museum in a country house at Stupca, Suceava county.
Among his creations are: Romanian Rhapsody for orchestra (initially for piano, Balad for violin and piano and several choral works.
In 1972 in honor of Ciprian Porumbescu (1853-1883) was produced a movie directed by George Vitanidis, a novelized biography of the composer. The movie entitled Ciprian Porumbescu interlocks the drama of one young blessed by a broken heart with the music's success and patriotic activities during the Romanian Revolution in 1848, part of the European Revolution in the same year.
The movie has a prestigious cast, including actors as: Ion Besoiu, Ioana Bulca, Tamara Cretulescu, George Cozorici, Emanuel Petrut, Sebastian Papaiani, Alexander Repan.
